Book Review : The Wish List by Jane Costello

The Wish List by Jane Costello
Published by : Simon & Schuster UK (11th Apr 2013)

Received a copy for review from the publisher, thank you!

The blurb:
There are six months left of Emma Reiss's twenties... and she has some unfinished business.

Emma and her friends are about to turn thirty, and for Emma it's a defining moment. Defined, that is, by her having achieved none of the things she'd imagined she would.

Her career is all wrong, her love life is a desert and that penthouse apartment she pictured herself in simply never materialised. Moreover, she's never jumped out of a plane, hasn't met the man she's going to marry, has never slept under the stars, or snogged anyone famous - just some of the aspirations on a list she and her friends compiled fifteen years ago.

As an endless round of birthday parties sees Emma hurtle towards her own thirtieth, she sets about addressing these issues. But, as she discovers with hilarious consequences, some of them are trickier to tick off than she'd thought...

What I thought about it:
I was so thrilled when a copy came into my post. I ADORE Jane Costello's books, as she is one of my favourite authors in the genre. A class on her own, I look forward to reading her books every year, to be honest, I read three of hers last year (a bit late but hey, at least I did!). But let's take a moment to appreciate the gorgeous cover - it screams "exciting, hilarious and will promise you a wonderful plot" and it does!

The Wish List follows the story of Emma Reiss, a 29-year-old who is about to welcome her big 3-Oh, where she stumbles upon her "wish list" written back when she was 15-year-old. I won't kill the surprise for you, but some of the things on the list are hilarious and extremely relatable. With six months left in her twenties, she embarks on a quest to complete all her aspirations, with humorous consequences!

Let's be clear. It's a Jane Costello novel. Pretty self-explanatory. What to expect: a hilarious, highly lovable heroine who you will root for till the end of the book, a (few) handsome, swoon-worthy heroes and an unforgettable plot. Having read most of her books, Jane managed to persuade me to fall in love with her books. Jane is able to incorporate humour into her heroine's everyday life, most of which will leave you cackling and snorting with laughter.

From the beginning of the novel, I could easily warm up to Emma - she's lovable, funny and honest, well to the readers, that is, just like how a best friend should be. The characters in the book are really lovely and full of life, including Emma's best friends Asha and Cally to her sister, Marianne. Nothing makes you love a book more than a cast of wonderfully written plot, right? Again, the plot was thrill to follow, expect loads of amusing encounters and be swept away by Emma's knight in shining armour!

Verdict:
Come on, if you're a fan of Jane Costello, I expect you to have read it already, right? As for others, it's a modern tale of discovering what you truly want in life and following your heart. So what if your thirties are looming by and you're not prepared to bid farewell to your twenties? Create a wish list and accomplish it!

Another brilliant book by Jane Costello. Witty, hilarious and the perfect companion on a quiet night-in. I loved it, and sadly, now I have to wait for a year for another Jane Costello novel!

Rating : 5/5

GINNIFER GOODWIN as Emma
Would definitely want Ginnifer to play Emma as I loved her portrayal of Rachel in SoBo!
