Blurb:
Polly Waterford is recovering from a toxic relationship. Unable to afford their townhouse, she has to move miles away from everyone, to the sleepy little seaside resort of Polbearne, where she lives alone above an abandoned shop.

And so Polly takes out her frustrations on her favourite hobby: making bread. But what was previously a weekend diversion suddenly becomes far more important as she pours her emotions into kneading and pounding the dough, and each loaf becomes better and better. With nuts and seeds, olives and chorizo, with local honey (courtesy of local bee keeper, Huckle), and with reserves of determination and creativity Polly never knew she had, she bakes and bakes and bakes...

And people start to hear about it. Sometimes, bread really is life... And Polly is about to reclaim hers

I really enjoyed Jenny Colgan's previous books and I was so thrilled to receive a copy of her latest, Little Beach Street Bakery to review. I guess Jenny Colgan has managed to create a signature for herself, writing stories with so much heart and basically, I just love books which are food related. Hands down.

Little Beach Street Bakery follows the story of Polly, a simple girl who just lost everything when her long-term boyfriend's business folds. Retreating to the seaside town of Polebearne, Polly determines to move on from her failures and start anew. Polebearne seems to be the solution to her problems, especially when the people are more than welcoming but there's a certain story behind everything, isn't there? And Polly is going to find out, even if it means getting her heartbroken and learning to live again.

Right away, I warmed up to the characters in the book, especially Polly and the fishermen crew. I liked how they welcomed her and made her feel comfortable in a completely foreign place. The introduction of the mysterious, peculiar beekeeper was a bit of a surprise. Huckle, was such a wonderful character and I thought he was really sweet and charming. Well, can I mention that there will be a wee little guy who will capture your heart? Yes, okay. His name is Neil.

The build up to the climax is a bit of a slow one, allowing readers to guess (you can never win that game when you read a book like Jenny Colgan’s) what is the mystery behind the townsfolk of Polebearne. It was well-written and I was pretty intrigued to find out what happens next, so you can imagine me hungrily turning the pages to get to the end. But do expect a few shocking plot twists, you’ve been warned. Why I enjoyed it? Well, it goes down to Jenny’s writing, in my opinion. It’s warm, inviting and delectable, just like the delicious breads Polly makes in the book.

If you’re looking for a book which invites you for a wonderful ride and journey of self-discovery, look no further. Little Beach Street Bakery is for you. Written with Jenny Colgan’s signature style, filled with incredibly warm characters, it’s the book you need to curl up in bed with a hot cup of tea. Oh, and you’ll definitely want to try out the recipes in the back. If only I could!

Rating: 7/10

I would love to see Gemma Arterton knead some bread! And Chris Hemsworth tending the gardens!
