The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight by Jennifer E. Smith
Published by : Poppy/Little Brown (1st Jan 2013)
Purchased this gem to read on Valentine's Day!
The blurb:
Who would have guessed that four minutes could change everything?
Today should be one of the worst days of seventeen-year-old Hadley Sullivan's life. Having missed her flight, she's stuck at JFK airport and late to her father's second wedding, which is taking place in London and involves a soon-to-be stepmother Hadley's never even met. Then she meets the perfect boy in the airport's cramped waiting area. His name is Oliver, he's British, and he's sitting in her row.
A long night on the plane passes in the blink of an eye, and Hadley and Oliver lose track of each other in the airport chaos upon arrival. Can fate intervene to bring them together once more?
Quirks of timing play out in this romantic and cinematic novel about family connections, second chances, and first loves. Set over a twenty-four-hour-period, Hadley and Oliver's story will make you believe that true love finds you when you're least expecting it.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of Young Adult (YA) novels, mainly because everything is based on trends (vampires, angels, werewolves, etc.) but I would make an exception for certain books, like the Gossip Girl series and this book, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight.
I bought this mainly because of the rave reviews it got from fellow bloggers and I wanted to know what the hype was about this particular book. Well, to be honest, the blurb sounds amazing and it actually is! And I do adore the cover, it's so adorable and edgy!
What I thought about it:
OK, as mentioned, I don't really read YA novels. But this is very different from all the clichéd YA novels out there. It's more matured and I really enjoyed every page of it. I still couldn't believe I finished this in a day. On Valentine's Day!
The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight (wow!) is about two strangers meeting in airport and getting to know each other more when they discover that they are on the same row on the plane. Hadley and Oliver are flying to Heathrow Airport from JFK for different reasons; Hadley is attending her father's wedding, where he is marrying someone Hadley has never even met. Oliver is flying back to visit his family in London, where he is from. Some call it fate, some call it coincidence, but I like to think of it as fate.
Say, if you're on your way to work and you miss the tube, you are forced to take the next one. And it so happens that the love of your life is on the same coach. Coincidence, I think not. From the title, we know it's a love story, as if the "Love at First Sight" doesn't give away the premise of the novel. In fact, it's a wonderfully romantic story of boy meets girl. However cliché it may sound, but soon they realise it's love at first sight.
Hadley, a seventeen-year-old girl who is still feeling bitter from her parents' sudden separation is actually a lovely female character for a YA novel. First of all, she's matured, unlike other naive characters, I feel that Hadley portrayed herself pretty well. Oliver, on the other hand, is such a charming male lead. Whoo. Swoon. Honest to truth, given that he is British, he is the perfect airplane companion and there's something about him that is seriously captivating. Also, I have to point this out, the chemistry between Hadley and Oliver is palpable. It's so natural and they fit together wonderfully, like a lock and key. Best lovestruck couple ever?
Since the story is a span of 24 hours, so don't expect a break to go to the loo or take a backseat drive because every chapter is packed with something that will keep you turning the pages. From the moment Hadley meets Oliver at the airport to the very ending, you'll be cruising till the last page and every page is to be savoured, even if it means reading slowly and enjoying every word. I really enjoyed Jennifer's writing style, it flows so smoothly, it's like a beautiful poetry and the way she describes significant moments in the book, it's as though she has gone through them and is writing from such depth. A fantastic young adult novel, already taken to the next level.
Verdict:
If you have a soft spot for a good ol' book based on the ever clichéd "love at first sight" or you might enjoy witty banters and quirky conversations with a bit of flirting, then you should pick this up. It's a beautifully written love story between two complete strangers who find themselves discovering what true love is, even though there are bound to be consequences and never to take life for granted.
Rating : 5/5
EMMA WATSON as Hadley
I know, Hadley is supposed to be American, but I can't help wondering how perfect Emma would be for the role!
LOUIS TOMLINSON as Oliver
I was going to go for Harry Styles but after his stunt with Taylor Swift, hmmm.. better not. So I think, Louis from 1D fits Oliver very well. He's British, tick. He's gorgeous, tick. Need I say more?
So sweet, and fun and absolutely adorable, The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight was an amazing YA read. I loved this book! It was light, sweet, and so much fun to read. Loved it!
