So.. Christmas is near and I am so happy to be a part of the Driving Home For Christmas blog tourorganised by Emily from Headline! Emma Hannigan has written a guest post on her favourite Christmas films!
Chocolate rivers
and ruby slippers… Who could ask for anything more this Christmas?
Ever since I was
a tot, two movies have symbolised Christmas for me. The first is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, the
one with Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka. I have been a stalwart fan of Roald Dahl
forever and I am a chocoholic so this movie ticks all the boxes. The second has
to be The Wizard Of Oz.
Even now I can
think of nothing more magical than sitting in my living room in front of a real
fire basking in the glow of the Christmas tree lights and settling down to
watch either of these movies.
My off spring
have reached their teens so most things in this world make them sigh with
irritation, roll their eyes and slump their shoulders while muttering under
their breath. But Charlie and the Chocolate Factory still cuts the mustard. My
son has proclaimed Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz as ‘sad’ but Willy Wonka is
still a legend. It seems no matter how embarrassing or uncool a person can be
(through the eyes of a teenager) a man who owns a chocolate factory is always
in vogue.
I know I’m
guaranteed company while Augustus Gloop gets stuck in the pipe leading from the
chocolate river. We will rustle roses wrappers en famille as Charlie triumphantly becomes the eventual owner of
the factory. But I think it could be me myself and I watching Dorothy as she
follows the yellow brick road. My daughter will watch for a bit, as most girls
old and young share a desire to own as many pairs of shoes as possible. All the
better if they’re ruby slippers. I didn’t blame the wicked witch of the west
for doing everything in her power to get those shoes. Believe me I’d use a team
of trained monkeys to steal Louboutins for me if I thought I’d get away with it.
Whether I’m
surrounded by my hubby and teens, puppy and cats or all on my own, one thing
is for certain, I can’t wait to relive all the choc-tastic and ruby-licious
moments my favourite movies are sure to deliver this Christmas!
