Welcome to the Mystic Quarter…
Jillian Spectre knows what happens after you die.
Because the seventeen-year-old mystic seer can see the future of her clients even after they’ve passed on. And that’s not even her coolest power…
She can be in two places at once. Problem is, her heart can only be in one.
Supernatural abilities aside, she’s a typical high school senior torn between two guys. But that takes a back burner when she discovers the father she had long assumed was dead is actually alive, with unique powers of his own. He’s a technopath, with the ability to interface his mind with technology. And he’s got a plan to take down society.
Unless Jillian can stop him.
This is the story of a very special girl who learns that the power of love is more important than supernatural powers.

In case you don't know, Nic Tatano is one of my go-to authors for romantic comedies, since I read his fantastic debut novel, Wing Girl. Being successful in the chick lit/rom com front, Nic has written a paranormal/fantasy young adult novel called The Adventures of Jillian Spectre and it's really good - I polished it off the day after I started before bed the night before!

The Adventures of Jillian Spectre is about a 17 year old girl who has a special gift: she has the ability to foretell the future. But one thing about her gift is that she's unable to determine her own future. Juggling between high school, grades and her power, Jillian faces the toughest tests as her power develops to a new level. With the help of her best friends, can Jillian truly understand her power and its purpose?

Let me get this off my chest: I've always been fascinated by superpowers and gifts and I've dreamt about inheriting them since I was young. I guess there's a little part of me who is a bit of a superhero geek and I was so glad to have read The Adventures of Jillian Spectre. What can I say about this book? Gosh, following Jillian's story reminds me of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and several telly series I used to watch. I really enjoyed reading this book because of its zany and quirky characters as well as their gifts. I guess part of me feels that Nic has created a modern spin on Charmed and Sabrina and it bodes well with the story.

As always, Nic's heroines are always independent and strong, one of the things I admire most in characters. Well, if you've been reading Nic Tatano's books, you'll notice that all his heroines are redheads. Yes, they are, aren't they? You know why? Because he married one! I think the characters in the book are fantastic and I really liked how different they are. Particularly, I really liked Jillian's best friend, Roxanne with her sassy attitude and sharp, biting one-liners! Since it's a YA novel, you could expect a little touch of romance which is really adorable and I liked how Nic managed to keep us all in suspense with the love triangle between the heroine and two other (gorgeous) guys. The dialogue in the book is enjoyable and I think the characters shone through the way they expressed themselves, eg. Roxanne's feisty attitude.

The Adventures of Jillian Spectre was an absolute thrill to read from the beginning right until the end! It's action-packed, filled with sweet, innocent romance with wonderfully-written characters. If the producers of Sabrina want to make a reboot, they should take inspiration from this book! I can't wait for the second book, bring it on!

Rating: 8/10

Emma Stone as Jillian and Mila Kunis as Roxanne! As for the guys, you'll have to decide on your own :)
