Blurb:
Maddy, dressed in white, stands at the back of the church. At the end of the aisle is Rob - the man she's about to marry. Next to Rob is Ben - best man and the best friend any two people ever had.

And that's the problem.

Because if it wasn't Rob waiting for her at the altar, there's a strong chance it would be Ben. Loyal and sensitive Ben has always kept his feelings to himself, but if he turned round and told Maddy she was making a mistake, would she listen? And would he be right?

Best friends since childhood, Maddy, Ben and Rob thought their bond was unbreakable. But love changes everything. Maddy has a choice to make but will she choose wisely? Her heart, and the hearts of the two best men she knows, depend on it...

I finally got the chance to read Giovanna Fletcher’s highly anticipated novel, You’re The One That I Want after her runaway success with her brilliant debut novel, Billy and Me! The moment I received it in the post, I dropped everything and started on it and I believe I finished it in two sittings!

After reading Billy and Me, I had high hopes for Giovanna’s future books and I was so excited to read her latest offering – even more so when it received praises from my fellow bloggers.

You’re The One That I Want follows the story of three childhood best friends: Maddy, Robert and Ben. Ever since they were young, they’ve always been a threesome, they wouldn’t go anywhere without each other. What happens when love interferes their friendship? Can Maddy trust her heart not to make a mistake that would threaten to break apart her relationship with her two best friends?

I’ve always loved a good love story which focuses on unrequited love. In You’re The One That I Want, unrequited love is tenderly dealt with as Maddy is torn between falling in love with her best friends and maintaining their seemingly unbreakable friendship. Let’s face it, the heroine will end up with only one guy, whether you’re on Team Robert or Team Ben, you’ll be more than surprised and caught off guard by the totally unexpected ending. I couldn’t decide on whose team I was, there were so many parts where I really rooted for Ben, but then suddenly Robert does the most romantic thing and I was left confused. All in all, the love triangle between Maddy, Robert and Ben did compel me to cheer for each and every one of them.

The central characters were well-written and I loved how Giovanna Fletcher created such wonderful characters. I enjoyed reading the book from Maddy and Ben’s point-of-view, allowing the readers a glimpse of their feelings and nuances of thoughts are well as aiding in the progression of the story. Though, I admit, I wanted to give each of them a good slap for not realising where their hearts truly lie. My heart broke for the characters as they struggled to come to terms with their true feelings for each other, be it terrible timing or just unlucky in love, I was gripped by their roller coaster of emotions.

As the book is written from dual perspectives, I was genuinely touched by Ben’s unconditional love for Maddy and Maddy’s indecision to choose either of them. A truly touching story of finding love where it’s closest to home and sacrificing your own happiness so that the person you love will be happy.

A bittersweet love story of unrequited love and ultimately letting go, Giovanna Fletcher deftly explores the intricacies of love when it comes to friendship and the taboo is how men and women cannot be friends. Genuinely touching and heartbreaking, my advice for you is to get some chocolates and stock up on tissues.
