Blog Tour: The Unfinished Symphony of You and Me by Lucy Robinson - Meet The Characters!

HEY, people! Please welcome the fabulous, wonderful, amazing and utterly hilarious Lucy Robinson to my blog today! I love Lucy's books and I would eat a vegan cronut for her (our inside joke). If you need reasons to buy her latest book, The Unfinished Symphony of You and Me, here's my review! Over to you, Robinson!

Well, Tuesday is here and I’m feeling good. I explained yesterday why I dread Tuesday – but, pah. Life is too short to dread anything. I’m on a blog tour for starters! Today is the last away day of this blog tour, because tomorrow I’m on my own blog. So it’s fitting that I should be making my last stop on I Heart.. Chick Lit.  Thank you EVER so much for having me, dear Kevin! You are the King of chick lit and I’m very bloomin' happy to be here.

So, to recap. During this tour I am talking about two things: MAD PEOPLE and FEAR.

The MAD PEOPLE are my cast of main characters from The Unfinished Symphony of You and Me. During this tour I’m revealing them to you, one by one.

And then I’ll talk briefly about FEAR. Facing your fears; seizing the day, just being brave is a major theme in this novel and at the end of this blog tour I’ll be facing a sizeable fear of my own and showing you a video of the results. ARGHHH. So, here we go. Feel free to butt in with any actor suggestions for the blockbusting film that will surely follow.

FIONA LANE and BEATRIZ MARIA STEFANINI

Today you’re getting two for the price of one! Fiona and Beatriz (or Fi and Bea) are both main characters in the novel but I asked them to share a blog because they are both absent for parts of the book – Fi in New York and Bea in London. Neither of them was particularly keen on sharing the limelight with the other but due to their geographical distance neither of them was able to fight me. They both would probably have a go if they were here in Bristol.

FIONA is Sally’s cousin and might as well be her sister. Fiona has no parents of her own so has grown up in Sally’s house. Fiona is a ballet dancer but unlike Sally she has no qualms about showcasing her skills to the world. She’s a massive pain in the backside: annoying, combative, rude and very naughty indeed, but utterly loveable. A little imp of a girl with a freckly nose and a habit (similar to Barry’s) of stealing food off other peoples’ plates. Fiona is a fierce admirer and protector of her cousin and had no problem beating up anyone who teased Sally in the playground at school. She’s a stunning ballerina and a fiercely loyal friend, and Sally loves her more than anyone else in the world. Watch out for the sunset scene on the roof at the Wythe Hotel.

My favourite Fiona lines (bit of a soppy one, this): ‘I love you so much, Sal,’ she whispered. ‘I don’t know what I’d do without you. You’re my world.

Fiona’s greatest fear: Fiona didn’t have a great start in life and as a result she does lean a little bit on Sally. So her greatest fear is probably of something happening to Sally. Not that she’d ever admit that.

This picture SCREAMS Fiona!
BEA is a frighteningly glamorous Italian woman who has never been seen without scarlet lipstick and towering heels. She is a make-up artist and wig supervisor but nobody really knows why she bothers working: she is appallingly rich and owns more handbags than any other woman in the history of women. And handbags.  Bea is fierce and fearsome and when she decides to befriend Sally, Sally has little choice in the matter. Not that she is arguing… ‘Your accent is precious, darling,’ Bea smiled. I like you.’ And with that I was taken on.

My favourite Bea Line: ‘Now, I’ve ordered you some proper luggage,’ Bea told me. ‘You will not tour with your nylon suitcases, Sally. We do this in style, si?’

Bea’s greatest fear: Don’t be ridiculous.
