Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover
Publisher: Simon & Schuster UK (5th Aug 2014)
Blurb:
When Tate Collins finds airline pilot Miles Archer passed out in front of her apartment door, it is definitely not love at first sight. They wouldn't even go so far as to consider themselves friends. But what they do have is an undeniable mutual attraction.
He doesn't want love and she doesn't have time for a relationship, but their chemistry cannot be ignored. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up, as long as Tate can stick to two rules:
Never ask about the past and don't expect a future.
Tate is determined that she can handle it, but when she realises that she can't, will she be able to say no to her sexy pilot when he lives just next door!
Before Ugly Love,
I have not read any of Colleen Hoover’s books and this is my first. I’ve heard
so many good things about Colleen Hoover and how she’s one of the best writers
when it comes to the New Adult genre. And.. when I saw that Ugly Love has been praised by Jamie
McGuire, I knew I had to read it. First of all, I would love to thank Kate
Barber from The Hot Bed for this
precious gem of a book!
Ugly
Love follows the story
of Tate Collins, who stumbles upon a passed out man on her brother’s apartment
doorstep. Hold on, I think I forgot to mention that he is insanely good
looking? Clearly this is not the story of love at first sight. Obviously. As Tate
and Miles (the handsome passed out guy) get to know each other, they can’t
ignore the igniting sexual tension. So when they surrender themselves to each
other, Miles makes her promise that she won’t ask about his past and not to
expect a future with him.
Oh my word. I cannot fathom proper words when I finished
reading this book. I know I had to know what happened to Miles and I was
adamant to finish the book so I could find out, but at the same time, I was conflicted
because I didn’t want it to stop. Right from the start, I was immediately on my
tenterhooks, clueless of what to expect. Ugly
Love is an emotional roller coaster ride and the more I got to know about
Miles’s painful past, the more I rooted for him to end up with someone like Tate,
who loves him wholeheartedly and deeply.
The book is told from Tate and Miles’s perspectives,
alternating between the present day, where readers get to experience how Tate
fell in love with Miles, and what happened 6 years ago, through Miles’s eyes. I
really enjoyed Colleen Hoover’s style of writing. It’s sharp, detailed and you
can really feel the characters’ emotion, seeping from the words, particularly
from Miles’s POV. Oh, god. That man has the biggest, sweetest heart ever. I dare you not to fall in love with him.
The chemistry between Tate and Miles is undeniably
bubbling/sizzling/at melting point and the desire for each other is carnal,
pure and lustful. If loving someone so fiercely would evoke such dangerous and deep
emotions, sign me up! I loved reading about their budding relationship and I
actually felt so bad for Tate when Miles told her she couldn’t give her a
future together – it was heartbreaking and devastating.
Ugly
Love is not a romantic
love story. It’s a story about accepting love in all forms and holding on to
the ones you love until the very end, through the sweet moments and living
through the bitter ones. If you’ve experienced love in its worst form, you will
learn to appreciate it and not take it for granted. Beautifully written,
evocative and devastatingly emotional, Ugly
Love is my first adventure with Colleen Hoover and it’s only the beginning.
I cannot wait to get my hands on her other books!
