Blurb:
When Juliet Hill unwittingly discovers a most-definitely-not-hers-rhinestone-studded lace thong in her high-flying lawyer boyfriend’s apartment, this usually feisty chef is suddenly single and facing a very blue Christmas – with only a ready meal for one to keep her company!

So when she’s personally requested to cater for the family at Thornton Hall three days before Christmas, it’s not long before Juliet’s standing at the (back) door of the Earl of Gloucester’s impossibly grand ancestral pile.

The halls are decked, the guests are titled, those below the stairs are delightfully catty, and all-American Juliet sets to work cooking up a glorious British Christmas with all the trimmings.

But other flames are burning besides those on the stove… Sparks fly with Edward, the gorgeous ex-soldier turned resident chef, and are those sidelong looks Juliet’s getting from her boss, the American tycoon Jasper Roth?

As the snow starts to fall on the idyllic Cotswolds countryside, so does the veneer of genteel high society and there are more than a few ancient skeletons rattling out of the Hall’s numerous dark cupboards!

I knew I’d be an idiot to say no to an offer to review another HarperImpulse book. Really, have you seen their vast collection of books published in a year? Every one of them is either a best-seller or a chart-topper. Bloggers go crazy when it comes to HarperImpulse’s books and I am one of the lucky few who get to review them!

When HarperImpulse sent me Thornton Hall, I swooned over the book, particularly the cover (HarperImpulse’s designer, Alexandra Allden is phenomenal!) and I couldn’t wait to read it. I LOVE books which are food-themed and in Thornton Hall, the heroine, Juliet Hill (Great minds think alike. If I were to ever write a book, I’d name my heroine Juliet too. It was either Hill or Woods. Lynn and I are soulmates).

Thornton Hall follows the story of Juliet Hill, a girl in her twenties with a huge heart and good hands. Really, she’s an amazing chef and she’s her agency’s best. When she finds out that her relationship with her boyfriend Ben is a lie, all her plans on meeting his parents for Christmas are quickly dashed. Disconsolate, Juliet finds herself in Thornton Hall, cooking for the infamous Jasper Roth. Soon, she finds herself in a middle of a very tricky situation. She has to work with her incredibly sexy co-chef, Edward all the while remembering what happened between her and Jasper..

What I can tell you is that Thornton Hall is Downton Abbey meets No Reservations (the film where Catherine Zeta-Jones falls in love with Aaron Eckhart?). Juliet has never been lucky in love, given her horrendous past relationships. Along comes Edward, sexy with his broad man shoulders from his years in the military, he commands his kitchen like he does so in bed..? Ha! You wish. Working in Thornton Hall should be a breeze for Juliet since she’s good at what she does and has no problem dealing with the overbearing Jasper Roth and the demands of his unstable wife, but what happens when you stir in a bit of romance into the mix?

The characters in Thornton Hall were such a thrill to read, my favourite of the bunch would be the gay butler, Terrence who is exceptionally funny from the start to finish and I couldn’t stop sniggering at his suggestive comments. Oh, don’t let me start with Edward. *lifts hand onto forehead and swoons* He is just so dishy and passionate, I couldn’t get enough of Edward. There’s a tiny thing that niggled me throughout the entire book. There wasn’t enough Edward. End of.

Thornton Hall was an enjoyable read for me and I wish there were more scenes including Edward because I couldn't get enough of him! Filled with descriptions of delicious dishes and the wonderfully rustic Thornton Hall, get ready to be transported to the quiet and idyll countryside! A cup of your favourite hot beverage and a blanket to snuggle are a must.

Reese Witherspoon as Juliet and Tom Hardy (*melts*) as Edward
