Blurb:
Have you ever given up on love?
When her boyfriend lets her down for the last time, Brooklyn bookshop owner Bea James makes a decision – no more. No more men, no more heartbreak, and no more pain.
Psychiatrist Jake Steinmann is making a new start too, leaving his broken marriage behind in San Francisco. From now on there'll just be one love in his life: New York.
At a party where they seem to be the only two singletons, Bea and Jake meet, and decide there’s just one thing for it. They will make a pact: no more relationships.
But the city has other plans . . .
Gah! I've finally read one of my most anticipated reads of 2014 and it feels amazing! This book, this gem by Miranda Dickinson has left me with that gooey, warm feeling you get when you read/watch the perfect happy ending!
I'll Take New York follow starts off when Bea James is once again left waiting by her boyfriend who constantly lets her down. Deciding that this is the final straw, she calls it off and swears off relationships. On the other side of the coast, Jake Steinmann is awfully hurt when his wife wants a divorce and decides on starting anew in New York, When the two of them chance a meeting, they make a Pact - no more relationships. As they spend more time together, they begin to enjoy each other's company, but are they willing to risk breaking the Pact and their friendship?
It goes without saying that I really enjoy Miranda Dickinson's novels as they give you a warm comfort, knowing that it's a modern fairytale and you're in for a treat. In her latest book, I really fell in love with the entire book as it is set in New York (hurrah!) and the story is too good to pass up. I have to give it to Miranda, she certainly knows how to plot her story and that allows readers to follow the characters' journeys to finding love.
No surprises, the characters in the novel are such a lovely bunch. We had the crazy, kooky gang in When I Fall In Love, the amazing people over at San Francisco in Take A Look At Me Now and now, get ready to be welcomed by the loveliest in I'll Take New York AND Fairytale of New York! Yes, people. If you've read Miranda's debut novel, Fairytale of New York, then you'll be meeting some familiar faces! One of my favourite characters is Bea's amazing grandmother, Dot who is such a fantastic and lovely person. I actually looked forward to reading her letters to Bea, where she offered really sound advice to our heroine.
The book explores the tenderness of relationships and how the best of friends make the best companions. As seen in the main characters, Bea and Jake, their relationship didn't start off with attraction - it was the mutual companionship and closeness a friendship could bring that bonded them together. Miranda Dickinson's I'll Take New York is a fresh take on the rather popular question that has been widely discussed in romantic comedies: "Can men and women remain as friends?". Read on and you'll find out!
Basically, the book is a total package. You get to fall in love with the characters (a certain Mr Steinmann) and root for the heroine to end up with him. Sprinkled with magic, I'll Take New York will leave you with a grin on your face, a warm feeling in your tummy and a heart full of love! Miranda Dickinson has a flair for writing the perfect love stories and the one between Bea and Jake is definitely a sparkling one! I urge you to get I'll Take New York!
