It's New Year's Eve, and Gemma and Spencer Bailey are throwing a house party. There's music, dancing, champagne and all their best friends under one roof. It's going to be a night to remember.

Also at the party is Caitlin, who has returned to the village to pack up her much-missed mum's house and to figure out what to do with her life; and Saffron, a PR executive who's keeping a secret which no amount of spin can change. The three women bond over Gemma's dodgy cocktails and fortune cookies, and vow to make this year their best one yet.

But as the months unfold, Gemma, Saffron and Caitlin find themselves tested to their limits by shocking new developments. Family, love, work, home - all the things they've taken for granted are thrown into disarray. Under pressure, they are each forced to rethink their lives and start over. But dare they take a chance on something new?

To kick off the New Year, Lucy Diamond releases The Year of Taking Chances and it’s only taken me so long to read it! I've always looked forward to festive novels, such as Christmas ones but Lucy Diamond’s new book focuses on the festivities of New Year (duh!) and how the New Year brings an entirely different adventure to three different friends.

The Year of Taking Chances follows the story of three women who meet up unexpectedly on New Year’s Eve for a party thrown by Gemma, a housewife who has the perfect everything – husband, home, children – but then something tragic happens and her life goes wayward. Then there’s Caitlin, who recently lost her mum and has let her life slip through her hands, but living in her mum’s cottage in the countryside might unravel some shocking news and last but not least, Saffron, who has a “fabulous” job in PR but she escapes the City for a little break, harbouring a secret. But surely a new year means a new change?

I really enjoyed reading The Year of Taking Chances because it’s such a comforting read that will make you laugh, cheer for the characters and make you root for them. They live through their trials and tribulations and their different paths are somehow intertwined, but in the end, they are rewarded with the sweetest of endings. However, I felt the length of the book was a bit too long, but overall, it was well-written. The characters are real, funny and full of life, which made reading Lucy Diamond’s new novel a good read.

A fabulous story about taking chances (obviously!) and a massive leap of faith. If you're looking for something funny, inspirational and feel-good, then treat yourself to Lucy Diamond's new one!
