One of my all-time favourite series is Marissa Meyer’s The Lunar Chronicles because the series was a thrill to read from start to finish. So when I found out that there will be a graphic novel that continues where the series left off in Winter with Iko, aka the most charismatic and lovable android in the series, as the main character, I was immediately on board!

The last time I read about these much-loved characters, it was in the collection of short stories, Stars Above. I didn’t expect myself to miss them so much until I read Wires and Nerve. Seems to me, that I am really itching for a reread of the series!

If you’ve read Stars Above, you’d know which couple gets married in the last short story in the book. If you haven’t read it, I would strongly suggest you read Stars Above but save the last story for later—just until you finish Wires and Nerve because the events of Wires and Nerve happen before the aforementioned wedding.

What can I say about Wires and Nerve to compel you to run out and get it? Could it be the adorable drawings of Iko and the Rampion crew—it was such a wonderful way of seeing the beloved characters from my favourite series come to life—and the storyline, though it was quite brief, I just loved Wires and Nerve because of the gorgeous illustrations and Iko.

In Wires and Nerve, the spotlight is on the lovable, effervescent android, Iko who was one of my favourite characters in the series because she’s funny, sassy and everything I want to be if I’m an android. I thought the story of Iko going around the world kicking wolf-hybrid asses was a fun, adventurous romp.

With Iko as the narrator of the story, I felt like there was a sprinkle of magic in Wires and Nerve. Maybe I’m just biased because I love Iko as a character so much.

“That's not necessary. I'm doing what any good friend would do, out of loyalty and Lunar patriotism and--"
"I'll buy you a new pair of shoes."
"Sold.”

I am quite new to reading graphic novels—I’ve only read Nimona, which was brilliant, before this—so I am really enjoying this new reading experience. The illustrations by Douglas Holgate in Wires and Nerve were brilliant and fantastic. I couldn’t stop swooning at the character illustrations—especially Kai and Carswell!

Verdict:

Though I would prefer to read the continuation of the series in the form of a novel, I would happily settle for a graphic novel. And the second volume will be out next year. I am eagerly awaiting the release of the next volume as I just can’t wait to immerse myself once again in the world of androids and intergalactic adventures.

I can see myself rereading Wires and Nerve whenever I need a fix of Marissa Meyer’s wonderful and charming characters. Wires and Nerve is highly recommended for fans of the amazing series that is The Lunar Chronicles.
