When I was first introduced to the opulence and grandeur of the world of Singapore’s richest in Kevin Kwan’s incredibly witty and laugh-out-loud debut novel, Crazy Rich Asians in 2013, I didn’t expect that his books would gain such success and I am so thrilled to have followed his characters on an exhilarating and unforgettable journey since Book 1!

Alamak! I can’t believe that Rich People Problems is the last book in the series!

I believe that the series got the ending it deserved. Though I am really shattered that I won’t be able to laugh at the characters’ silliness and gasp at how much I could relate to the characters, I am perfectly contented with the ending because it was fabulous.

In Rich People Problems, everyone is in turmoil when they receive news about Shang Su Yi’s sudden decline in her health. Being typically Asian, the entire clan fly from across the globe to be at the matriarch’s bedside, beside themselves with worry! But then, we all know that their eyes—gleaming with greed—that they are all waiting to stake their claim on the massive fortune. Pfft!

So what can you expect from Kevin Kwan’s latest offering?

Intrigue? Drama? Scandal?

How about all of the above?

Once again, Kevin Kwan delivers another stunning novel, wrapped in a silk of decadence and style and imbued with humour that would be the perfect treat for you if you need a good laugh. It’s incredibly “Asian” and I am so glad that I speak Cantonese and understand a bit of Mandarin and Hokkien to get the jokes in Rich People Problems. Fret not, Kevin Kwan is kind enough to grace us with his presence with his footnotes, offering oftentimes hilarious and witty commentary throughout the novel.

There’s been so much happening in the past two books and I feel that Rich People Problems successfully wrap things up nicely in the end. I enjoyed China Rich Girlfriend, the second book in the series but there wasn’t as magnificent as reading Crazy Rich Asians because the majority of the second book was set in China, which wasn’t a bad thing. The players change, the game remains the same! I was thoroughly thrilled by Rich People Problems because we find ourselves back in Singapore (most of the time—these rich people do love to travel on their private jets!).

Reading Rich People Problems was indeed, a very memorable and nostalgic experience because Kevin Kwan takes us on a last hurrah in the final book in the series, especially when the characters return to Tyersall Park, the heart of the Young-Shang clan.

Back to the beginning where everything started. With beautiful, detailed descriptions of the highly coveted trophy in The Hunger Games of real estate, it was such an experience to read about the marvels of architecture and the rich history that surrounds Tyersall Park! Aiyo! You’ll be flipping pages while clutching your pearls, pleasantly shocked by what you’re reading!

Bizarre, highly entertaining and seriously addictive, Rich People Problems is a triumph because I had so much reading it. I will definitely miss the characters and their wild, filthy rich antics which means I might even have a reread of the entire trilogy! Rich People Problems will make you LOL, for real. I look forward to reading what Kevin Kwan writes next!
